I like to think of orthodontics as mostly science š§āš¬ with a touch of art in the finishing stages šØ. Better yet, I like to think of orthodontics as mathematics of the mouth š¦·ā.

The goal is of ortho calculator is not to teach you new things
Originally, I created these calculators for myself š¤. I felt I was juggling too many variables in my head š¤Æ while I was treatment planning my cases and wanted to find a better way to organize my thoughts š”. As these calculators evolved, I began to consider that others may also benefit from the use of my calculatorsāespecially those early in their orthodontic careers š©āāļø.
My calculators are an amalgamation and reworking of well-known orthodontic concepts š. There are many resources already available for space analysis, expansion requirements, and determining extraction patterns šāļø. However, my calculators allow you to do the math in a dynamic and user-friendly fashion where you can continue to run the numbers š§® until everything balances out āļø in a way that aligns with your personal treatment philosophy š§ .
That being said, I hope you will come to view this website as a useful tool š ļø that boosts your confidence šŖ when treatment planning your cases, and that you will find comfort in knowing that the math behind your treatment plan checks out ā .

The calculators can all be used independently or together in sequence. I recommend the following order:
1. Expansion Calculator: determine if transverse coordination is necessary and calculate the amount of space that can be gained by expansion
2. Space Calculator: determine space requirements in each arch based on planned incisor position, then explore possible ways to create space and resolve tooth size arch length discrepancies (TSALD)
3. Extraction Calculator: determine the ideal extraction pattern to resolve a TSALD and/or optimize A-P coordination of the arches
