Dr. Daniel Richmond

I was born and raised in London, Ontario where I completed my undergraduate degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Western Ontario. After graduating, I moved to Montreal to attend dental school at McGill University with the sole purpose of becoming an oral surgeon.

Throughout my time at McGill, I slowly began to realize that the thing I loved the most about dentistry was not extractions and surgery (as fascinating as they are), but rather the challenge that is diagnosis and treatment planning orthodontic cases. Under the didactic and clinical guidance of Dr. Retrouvey, I learned more and more about this enigmatic specialty and confirmed that orthodontics was my true calling. I became obsessed with the tremendous impact orthodontic treatment can have on one’s confidence and self-esteem. I spent countless hours studying at the McGill libraries and Second Cup across from the dental school and received the Dean’s Gold Medal for my efforts. I then spent one year working with my dad who is a paediatric dentist back in London before gaining acceptance to the Graduate Orthodontics program at the University of Toronto. I am currently completing a fellowship in Craniofacial Orthodontics at the Hansjörg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery, New York University.

Ortho Calculator is a living summary of some of the most important concepts I have learned so far during my training. A collection of tools to assist with the most exciting part of orthodontics—diagnosis and treatment planning. I hope that others will find this website to be a valuable educational resource that takes some of the guess work out of orthodontics, and makes you feel more confident in your treatment plans.
